My father slapped me across the face once because I told him that my mother was lying to him, and saying I had done something which I had not. He hit me so hard my glasses went flying and I spun off to the side. But what he didn't expect was that as soon as I got my footing I spun right back and slapped him equally hard across his face. To say he was shocked was the understatement of the year. I'd like to say I stayed and fought but I didn't. I ran. I was a 5'4", 130 pound 14-year-old girl, and he was a 5'10, 180 pound 50 year old man. I sneaked back in the window that night and gathered up my stuff, and went to stay with a relative of my mother's who couldn't stand her or him. He and I never spoke again. He died 4 years later and I never mourned him a bit.
